🐺 A pregnant mother. A small girl. And a wolf that wouldn’t stop watching them…
They were alone in the forest, sitting on a fallen log, when he appeared among the ferns.
“Don’t look… don’t move, my love” — the mother whispered, holding her daughter close to her chest.
“Mom… I’m scared” — the little girl said, tears in her eyes.
The wolf approached, slow, silent. His amber eyes never left them.
The mother looked up at the sky through the trees and whispered a prayer:
“Please… don’t let him find us.”
But the wolf had already found them.
And then… he showed his teeth.

Elena was eight months pregnant when she decided to take her daughter Sofía to pick berries in the forest, like every summer afternoon. They lived alone, ever since her husband had left for the war, with no news from him for months.
They sat down to rest on a fallen log, as always. Sofía was the one who saw him first.
“Mom…” — she whispered, pointing among the ferns.
A gray wolf, big and alone, watched them from eight meters away. He wasn’t moving. Just watching.
Elena knew right away she shouldn’t run. She held Sofía against her chest, whispering to her not to move, not to look. The wolf took a step. Then another. Slow, silent, deliberate.
Elena prayed. Not for herself — for the life she carried inside her, and for the girl trembling in her arms.
The wolf came closer, until he was only three meters away. He sniffed at them. He watched them with his amber eyes for what felt like an eternity.

And then, he opened his mouth, baring his teeth…
Not to attack. To howl.
A long, deep howl that called his pack — not to hunt Elena and her daughter, but to guide them. The wolf had detected, long before they had, the smell of smoke from a forest fire advancing right along the path they had planned to take back home.
That night, guided by the wolf and his pack along a safe trail, Elena and Sofía made it home safely.
Three weeks later, Elena gave birth to a healthy boy. She named him Lobo, in honor of the animal who, without their knowing it, had saved their lives.
